What's New in December 2025
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially launched the Digital K Visa Application Pilot Program, marking a significant shift in how STEM professionals can apply for this talent visa. For the first time, qualified applicants in select countries can complete the entire application process online without visiting a Chinese embassy or consulate in person.
This update follows the October 2025 K Visa launch and represents the fastest policy iteration in Chinese immigration history, reflecting the government's commitment to attracting global tech talent.
Pilot Consulates
The digital application system is currently available at these 5 locations:
Not in a Pilot Country?
Applicants outside these 5 consular jurisdictions must still use the traditional in-person application process. The program is expected to expand to all consulates by Q2 2026.
How the Digital Process Works
Register at cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn. Select "K
Visa (STEM Talent)" and choose "Digital Application Pilot."
Submit scanned copies of passport, degree certificates, CV, and STEM field verification. All documents must be in PDF format, max 5MB each.
Take a passport-style photo using your phone camera (guided by the app). Facial recognition replaces fingerprinting for pilot applications.
$140 USD (same as in-person). Accepts credit card, PayPal, or bank transfer. Fee is non-refundable.
If approved (typically 3-5 business days), receive PDF e-visa via email. Print and present at Chinese immigration. No passport sticker required.
